WHAT Improve trails & restore wetlands

WHEN National Trails Day
        Saturday, June 1
        9:30 AM to 12:30* PM
        Rain or shine

WHERE Belle Isle Marsh Reservation, East Boston
T-accessible; across from MBTA Blue Line's
        Suffolk Downs Station

WHY If the only time you go to East Boston is
to use the airport, then take advantage of
this opportunity to visit this neighborhood
        and make a difference!

Rich in nutrients and protected from ocean
water, Belle Isle Marsh provides critical
habitat for wildlife such as migratory birds
and ocean fishes. Our work will improve
trails and restore wetlands for human visitors,
flora, and fauna, assisting dedicated DCR
supervisor Geoff Wood for our 16th year.

Belle Isle Marsh Reservation preserves 152
of the 241 acre Belle Isle Marsh, and is part
of the East Boston Greenway, a 3.3-mile, foot/
bike trail in progress along the old railroad
        right-of-way, connecting the historic waterfront
to Belle Isle, Piers Park, the Boston Parks
stadium, and Wood Island Bay Marsh.

*Optional: Volunteers are encouraged to bring their
lunches so that after the project concludes they
can picnic and explore the type of wetlands that
once lined the shores of Massachusetts Bay.

WHO People Making a Difference (PMD) is a nonprofit
        organization that promotes informed and
        responsible volunteerism by involving people
in tangible, hands-on work that meets
local needs and by assisting companies
        and charities in building successful
        community involvement programs that:
       * Produce appreciable results and bring
         tools and materials while conserving
         recipient charities' limited resources,
       * Educate volunteers about broader issues,
       * Bring people together to make a difference.

Trails are integral to our lives, and lifelong enjoyment
of nature depends on the collective efforts of all
 citizens in a community.
