For Individual Volunteers, NOT Groups

Prepare/Count out snacks for 200 youth departing from free, evening soccer programs

Two, masked PMD volunteers give thumbs up at the soccer fields in 2022

WHEN

  • Monday 6/26/2023 - Thursday 6/29/2023, 6:45-7:45pm one or more nights
  • Sign up by 6/19/2023

Join the Backup List if you can reserve this day/time.

WHAT

So that each participating youth will receive a snack efficiently upon departure, PMD volunteers will be counting, bagging/boxing, and dropping off snacks with each coach.

WHERE

Russell Field, North Cambridge
8-Minute Walk from Alewife T Station (0.4 mile)

Note: PMD only shares specific directions, maps, and other details with registered volunteers since we cannot accommodate any walk-ins, i.e., unregistered volunteers simply showing up.

WHY

Local, all-volunteer charity Soccer Nights is offering its free, week-long soccer program for children (grades 1-8). At Soccer Nights, neighbors and local organizations partner together to create a space for people to come together in a fun, meaningful, and lasting way.

HOW

Sign up for Wednesday 6/28 or as a backup for any of the other nights (June 26, 27,29) at http://www.pmd.org/s/SoccerNights2023.htm You will be asked to select how many nights you want to volunteer and then rank your preferred night(s).

PMD canNOT accept any UNregistered, walk-in volunteers.

Participation is required for the entire, 60-minute shift.
PMD cannot accommodate late arrivals or early departures.

If this project reaches maximum capacity (3 volunteers/night), then interested volunteers can join the backup list, since we anticipate (and promote) cancellations due to illness and covid-19 exposure.
Joining a PMD backup list mean making a commitment to reserve the shift(s) indicated until the date you provide.

PMD policy requires individuals only sign up themselves (and may not sign up or reserve spaces for others). However, parents may sign up youth age 14-15 as long as an accompanying adult also registers individually and participates fully with the youth.

For volunteers age 14-17, a parent/guardian must also print and co-sign PMD's waiver/release.

Call PMD if you cannot register online using qualtrics.
CALL THE PMD OFFICE at (*82) 1-781-963-0373 so that we can help you AND troubleshoot the problem so that other potential volunteers will not face the same problem. Thanks!

After you register successfully, you will see a confirmation screen and receive a confirmation email message, so be sure to save the date(s) and times on your calendars AND add Lori@pmd.org to your address/white/allow list.
Then a few days before this project PMD will email specific details in a PDF, including directions to the project site by public transit and by car, what to wear/expect, checklist, map, and release form for minors that a parent/guardian must co-sign and provide at at check-in -- Volunteers age 18+ provide their consent when registering online, to minimize paper/printing/contact.

WHO

Volunteers age 14+ who are healthy are welcome.
Volunteers must wear (provided) disposable gloves.
No soccer skills or knowledge are required to distribute snacks.

Like all PMD projects, this project requires being in excellent health (and living with others who are also), plus standing and walking outdoors, and like all PMD projects, participation for an entire (one-hour) project shift.

This is a fragrance-free event, meaning that participants must not wear perfume or cologne, or scented skin, hair, facial, or clothing/laundry products.

For 30+ years, public charity People Making a Difference (PMD) has promoted informed and responsible volunteerism by involving people in tangible work that meets local needs and by assisting companies in building successful community involvement programs that:
  • Produce appreciable results while conserving recipients' limited resources.
  • Educate volunteers about broader issues.
  • Bring people together to make a difference.

"We think kids are great. We want all kids who participate to know they are valued members of their teams, families, and communities, and that they have something unique to offer each of these groups and places.
We want kids to leave Soccer Nights not only better soccer players, but better friends, better brothers and sisters, better students, better neighbors.
We want them to see and care for the people around them, and to take pride in who they are, where they’ve come from, and where they're going.
And most importantly, we want kids to have one of their favorite weeks of the year at Soccer Nights and leave with a huge smile on their face."
