WHERE
Spy Pond Park, Arlington
Note: PMD only shares specific directions, maps, and other details with registered volunteers since we cannot accommodate any walk-ins, i.e., unregistered volunteers simply showing up.WHY
FSSP is a nonprofit, all-volunteer group that supports the preservation, enhancement, and enjoyment of Spy Pond Park and Spy Pond as natural and community resources.
HOW
PMD canNOT accept any UNregistered, walk-in volunteers, even if you have volunteered with PMD in the past.
Participation is required for the entire, 90-minute project.
PMD cannot accommodate late arrivals or early departures.
If this project reaches maximum capacity (8 volunteers), then interested volunteers can join the backup list, since we anticipate (and promote) cancellations due to illness and covid-19 exposure.
Joining a PMD backup list mean making a commitment to reserve the date(s) indicated until the date you provide.
PMD policy requires individuals only sign up themselves (and may not sign up or reserve spaces for others). However, parents may sign up youth age 10-15 as long as an accompanying adult also registers individually and participates fully with the youth.
For volunteers age 10-17, a parent/guardian must also print and co-sign PMD's waiver/release.
Call PMD if you cannot register online using qualtrics.
CALL THE PMD OFFICE at
After you register successfully, you will see a confirmation screen and receive a confirmation email message, so be sure to save the date(s) and times on your calendars AND add [email protected] to your address/white/allow list.
Then a few days before this project PMD will email specific details in a PDF, including directions to the project site by public transit and by car, what to wear/expect, checklist, map, one release form for adults to print, sign and bring (and an additional release form for minors that a parent/guardian must co-sign and provide at at check-in - Volunteers age 18+ provide their PMD consent when registering online, to minimize paper/printing/contact).
WHO
Volunteers age 10+ who are healthy are welcome.Volunteers must wear work gloves - PMD will provide them, or volunteers can bring their own.
Like all PMD projects, this project requires being in excellent health (and living with others who are also), plus standing and walking outdoors, and like all PMD projects, participation for the entire (90-minute) project. Volunteers will be using long, pole trimmers as well as long-handled loppers to cut back the shrubbery and fit the pieces into yard waste bags.
This is a fragrance-free event, meaning that participants must not wear perfume or cologne, or scented skin, hair, facial, or clothing/laundry products.
For 33+ years, public charity People Making a Difference (PMD) has promoted informed and responsible volunteerism by involving people in tangible work that meets local needs and by assisting companies in building successful community involvement programs that:
- Produce appreciable results while conserving recipients' limited resources.
- Educate volunteers about broader issues.
- Bring people together to make a difference.
